These Rice crispy squares. This was a favourite treat of mine from my childhood. This was probabaly one of the first desserts I learned how to make. Super easy and fun, plus delicious, equals must learn how to make! I'm not sure the exact age I was when I first made these on my own, but I would guess around 10. So if you are not a baker but still love desserts, then this is the treat for you.

To make these Rice Crispy Squares you will need :

  • 1 Bag Mini Marshmallows (400g)
  • 6 Cups Rice Crispys 
  • 1/4 Cup Butter plus extra to coat baking dish.
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract 

Preparing Rice Crispy Squares:

Prepare a rectangular baking dish by coating it with butter. Have a cup large enouph to fit a butter knife in, filled with water. Set aside with your baking dish.

In a large non stick pot, add you butter and vanilla extract. Melt over medium heat.

Once butter is melted, add your marssmallows and (gently) stir constantly over medium heat until fully melted.

Remove from heat and add in your Rice crispy, folding it all together.

Pour into you prepared dish, then press it into your pan using a butter knife dipped in water to prevent the knife from sticking. 

Cover right away and allow to cool before cutting.

Store in a covered container at room temperature.

Tips And Tricks for Better Rice Crispy Squares:

Dip a butter knife in water for smoothing the top of your squares down. The water helps prevent the knife from sticking.

Be sure to remove the pan from the heat before adding the rice crispy cereal. If it gets too hot you may find your squares become quite hard once cooled.

Cover right away after spreading into your pan. If they do not get covered they will become stale and hard.

How Long Do Rice Crispy Squares Last?

Slice up and store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

  2. TEXTURE: Crispy, sticky, gooey.
  3. EASE: Super duper easy. If you're worried about the idea of browning the butter, don't be. It's easier than you think and oh so delicious.
  4. APPEARANCE: Well, they look exactly like rice crispy treats! I love when you take a bite and the marshmallow pulls into a long string of sweet goodness.
  5. PROS: Easy, simple, better than regular rice crispy treats.
  6. CONS: Uses store-bought marshmallows. I usually like to make things from scratch.
