Perfect Baked Potato with Crispy Skin and Fluffy Center

Who else loves a perfectly baked potato? Crispy, salty skin on the outside and a soft, fluffy center on the inside is pure comfort food! After years of ending up with disappointing potatoes, I finally found the method that works every single time, and now it's a regular favorite at our table.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 large russet potato (about 12 to 14 oz)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus extra for the inside

• Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon, chili, broccoli, black beans, salsa, avocado, feta, olives, fresh tomatoes, BBQ chicken, buffalo chicken, marinara sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and more

 Step by Step:

Choose a firm russet potato with no soft spots or green patches.

Scrub the potato well under running water and dry it completely.

Use a fork to poke holes all over the potato.

Rub the potato with oil, then coat it evenly with salt.

Bake using one of these methods:

 Oven Method:

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the potato directly on the oven rack and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until a fork slides in easily.

 Faster Method:

Microwave on high for 5 to 6 minutes, then transfer to a 425°F (220°C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes to crisp the skin.

Let the potato rest for 5 minutes after baking.

Cut a slit down the center and gently fluff the inside with a fork.

Add your favorite toppings and enjoy immediately!
