Turkey bones soup


Don't throw away those turkey bones, instead make this delicious and hearty Turkey bones soup. A broth infused with turkey bones can actually help reduce joint pain thanks to the glucosamine extracted from the cartilage. 


Turkey bones also contain calcium and magnesium, and can help fight infections, reduce inflammation and even boost hair and nail growth. Add in all the vegetables on top of that and this soup is nothing short of a super food. It has everything you could need and more to provided nutrients to your body while also tasting amazing. 


This Turkey bones soup reminds me of my grandma. She use to make turkey soup regularly and store it in mason jars to share with us all. This was one of my sisters favorite soups. I can remember her asking my grandma to make it for her. There are so many memories to be made with food. I hope you can make some of your own with this family favorite. 


Ingredients:


  • Leftover cooked turkey carcass 
  • 3 to 4 Slices Cooked Turkey, diced
  • 8 Cups Water
  • 1 Tsp Sage
  • 1 Tsp Basil
  • 1 Tbsp Parsley
  • 4 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Tbsp Chicken Stock Powder (optional)
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 3 Carrots, peeled and diced
  • 2 Onions, diced
  • 4 Medium Potatoes, peeled, diced then soaked in water
  • Garlic 6 cloves, mince
  • 1 Stock Celery, finely chopped
  • 3 to 4 Slices left over cooked turkey


Turkey Bones Soup Directions:


Add your leftover turkey carcass to a large stock pot and add 8 cups of water, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Cover and simmer for at least 3 hours and up to 12 hours.


Meanwhile, sauté your onions and garlic for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant. 


Remove the turkey carcass and bay leaves and discard. Strain your broth to ensure no small bones remain. Scoop off some of the excess fat and discard. Add the turkey pieces back to the pot. Then add parsley, basil, sage, chicken stock powder, carrots, drained potatoes, celery, cooked onion and garlic. Cover and simmer until vegetables are cooked through. 


Add your diced sliced of leftover cooked turkey and cook for another 5 minutes. taste the soup to check for seasoning and add additional spices as needed. 


 Serve hot and enjoy your Turkey bones soup!
